During a recent facial, I listed "acne", "rough texture", and "dullness" as my main skin concerns. No matter how many exfoliants and brightening serums I incorporated into my skincare routine, I couldn't get rid of those pesky breakouts or boost my skin's radiance.
After a quick analysis, however, the aesthetician identified the root cause of all these issues. Turns out, my skin was incredibly dehydrated. As someone who has oily, or at the very least, combination skin, this came as a complete surprise.
Spoiler alert: I reviewed the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range later in this article as a recommended solution for my problem. If you're less interested in the cause of my skin issues because you already know you have dehydrated skin too, then scroll further down to see the review!
Contrary to what I assumed, dehydrated skin isn't necessarily skin that's overly dry. Dry skin is characterised by fewer oil-producing glands on the face and body. Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, is a lack of water, not oil. So, you can actually have an oily complexion but still have dehydrated skin.
To understand my skin better and replenish its moisture reserves, I decided to do a little digging. The more I read up on skin dehydration, the more I noticed a common recommendation made by dermatologists. They all pointed towards one superstar ingredient: hyaluronic acid.
How hyaluronic acid addresses dehydration
For starters, our bodies naturally produce hyaluronic acid. It's able to attract and hold water – a staggering six litres for every gram of hyaluronic acid, to be exact. So when it's formulated in skincare products, this ingredient has the ability to draw moisture to the surface of your skin. It helps to bind water to collagen for a plumper, dewier, and more hydrated complexion.
Since the ingredient is watery in nature, it's also easily absorbed by our skin, which is also why it works so quickly. Its smaller molecular size reaches deeper layers of our skin, pulling moisture towards it. Hyaluronic plays nice with other ingredients in your routine too, so you can layer it on without wreaking havoc on your skin.
Knowing this, I was ready to splurge on a pricey hyaluronic acid. But before I did, I was asked to try the L'Oréal Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range for one week. It couldn't have come at a better time!
Restoring my moisture barrier with the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range
Targeting dry, dehydrated, and dull skin, the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range comprises of three products: a hyaluronic acid serum, an eye cream that can also be used on the rest of the face, as well as a serum-soaked sheet mask.
To bump up hydration levels, the trio of products are infused with two forms of hyaluronic acid – macro hyaluronic acid and micro hyaluronic acid. There are different molecular sizes when it comes to hyaluronic acid, varying from bigger molecules that sit closer to the skin's surface to smaller ones that go in deeper into the epidermis.
Macro hyaluronic acid intensely hydrates and smooths your skin's surface, while micro hyaluronic acid addresses dehydration and plumps your skin from within. I was thrilled to see what the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid trio could do for my skin in one week.
First impressions of the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range
L'Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Housed in a clear glass bottle, the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum has a lightweight, gel-like texture that sinks into the skin fast. I applied it on damp skin after cleansing and before moisturising. Since hyaluronic acid works by absorbing moisture, it can pull moisture from the skin when applied on a dry surface, so it's best to use it on damp skin right after you've cleansed.
When I used it for the first time, my skin absorbed it in seconds, and it already looked a little plumper and bouncier. My skin is on the sensitive side too, so when I learned that there were no parabens, synthetic dyes, and fragrances in the formulas, I heaved a sigh of relief.

L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream for Face
The skin around our eyes is much thinner compared to the skin on the rest of our body. When it's dehydrated, fine lines and dark eye circles show up way more visibly. I had been looking to invest in a new eye cream for a while now, because most I've tried have either caused milia seeds with their rich formulas, pilled under my moisturiser, or did nothing at all for my under-eyes.
Thankfully, I found the Goldilocks of eye creams with the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream for Face. Despite its creamy texture, the eye cream felt light around my eyes. It settled on my skin fast without leaving a tacky, greasy residue behind as most eye creams do. Apparently, it contains macro and micro hyaluronic acid that's five times more concentrated, allowing deeper penetration in the skin's surface layers.
Besides hyaluronic acid, the eye cream is also infused with Pro-Xylane, L'Oréal's patented ingredient that stimulates collagen production to firm the skin and reduce fine lines.
Since I'm in my late 20s, I decided to apply some of the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream on my nasolabial folds (lines that form from the bottom of your nose to the corners of the mouth, also known as laugh lines) and forehead too – a preventative measure that may just pay off in the years to come.
L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Plumping Fresh Mix Serum Mask
After I stepped out of the shower one night, I decided to pamper my skin with the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Plumping Fresh Mix Serum Mask. This sheet mask is a little different from other sheet masks I've tried in the past. That's because the serum and tissue mask are packed in separate chambers – clever packaging that helps to keep the hyaluronic acid serum fresh until it's introduced to the sheet mask.
To use the mask, I followed these easy steps:
-
- Step 1: I folded the mask along the dotted lines, as indicated on the packaging. Then, I pressed the serum sachet until the seals broke and released the serum into the tissue mask compartment.
- Step 2: I mixed the hyaluronic acid serum and tissue mask well, making sure the mask was evenly soaked in the serum.
- Step 3: Then, I tore the mask pack open and applied the sheet mask on my face, leaving it to do its job for 15 minutes.
To avoid wasting any serum, I also distributed the excess on my neck and chest. And after I removed the sheet mask, I massaged the remaining hyaluronic acid serum on my face using my fingertips. It gave my skin a nice slip, perfect for facial massages. The second time I used the mask, I followed up with a quick gua sha facial massage to drain any lymphatic fluid and depuff my face.
Also filled with macro and micro hyaluronic acid, the serum in the mask bumped up my skin's hydration levels in just 15 minutes. I then layered on the Revitalift 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum and slathered on the Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream for Face to complete my routine.
After 1 week
Before my one-week trial ended, I had already started to see and feel a difference in my complexion. My skin gained a dewy, moist sheen that didn't look greasy at all. Instead, it looked and felt more hydrated unlike how tight and taut it used to.
In fact, my skin's moisture levels had increased by 12.9% after a week. My face no longer felt parched like Spongebob when he entered Sandy's house. It felt more resilient and wasn't as easily irritated by environmental factors, such as harsh UV rays and warm showers.
The skin around my eyes used to have a crepe-like texture that was attributed to dehydration, but after the trial, it became much smoother. Though I haven't quite developed deep-set wrinkles yet, the fine lines below my eyes appeared softer and less obvious.
I was particularly impressed by the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Its light texture made it easier for my skin to lap up. Plus, it didn't clog my pores at all, which is great news for all my fellow blemish-prone folks out there.
It even works well under makeup. When I wore a full face of foundation during one of the days, the serum seemed to extend its longevity, so there were no creases or cracks at the end of a long day.
Hyaluronic acid is a universally-loved ingredient that works well for all skin types, so if you're looking to give your skin a boost of moisture and radiance, the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid range is the perfect place to start.
