Shampoo, conditioner, hair mask. These are probably the three key products I have been using in my hair care routine for the last decade or so.
Just as I thought I have seen it all – especially since I've been a beauty journalist for so long – I was recently introduced to water treatments, an innovation that is an upgrade from your usual hair treatment products.
It probably isn't surprising that these products are carried by KUNDAL, the #1 shampoo brand in Korea, which is always on the forefront of personal care technology.
What is a water treatment for hair?
You're probably already familiar with hair treatments such as hair masks, which come in rich, creamy textures.
While they are indeed effective in giving your hair an instant smoothening effect, there are several problems that may make some of us shun away from them: their heavy and greasy textures make them difficult to apply; many of them contain a lot of silicone which gives your hair a smooth texture but may do harm to your hair in the long run; finally it can be quite a pain to rinse off thoroughly.
The water treatment difference
A water treatment, on the other hand, also works effectively to strengthen hair and prevent damage, but is free from all the pain points mentioned above.
Because of its watery texture, it's super easy to apply and absorbs quickly, and of course is a breeze to rinse off.
In KUNDAL's case, all products are made with all-natural ingredients of EWG Grade, that are free from most nasties. What this means is that, if you've always been wary of silicone and other common nasties in your hair products, you won't have that problem with the water treatments (and other hair products!) from KUNDAL.
Besides these benefits, as a huge bonus, there are water treatments, such as the KUNDAL's Head Spa & Scalp Scaling Caffeine Water Treatment, that can be applied directly onto the scalp to offer scalp care benefits; something that you can never do with regular hair treatments.
KUNDAL Honey & Macadamia Miracle Damage Care Water Treatment review: Trying out water treatments for the first time
After hearing so much good things about water treatments, especially the ones from KUNDAL, there's only one thing left to do – in Daily Vanity style: put it to the test.
I reached out for the KUNDAL Honey & Macadamia Miracle Damage Care Treatment, because my hair has been visibly damaged and lacklustre since I started bleaching it. This version carries the scent of Baby Powder, which gives a comforting sensation.
The ingredients
The list of ingredients impressed me even before I started using it. It contains 17 amino acids and 10 hydrolyzed proteins (the hydrolyzed process helps make sure the proteins can penetrate more easily into hair), which are great for treating hair that's dull, brittle, and damaged – exactly what I needed.
It is formulated with 2,000 ppm of honey and 2,000 ppm of macadamia extract, which indicates a very high concentration of these natural active ingredients. On top of these, it also contains five plant-derived oils and 16 plant extracts to further nourish hair naturally.
Yes, I know what you're thinking: wow.
To use it, simply apply it onto your hair after shampooing and rinsing off. Massage it in gently for 10 seconds and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
How it felt
As expected, it is easy to dispense, especially with the clever design of a "sharp" nozzle, which helps you to pour out just the right amount of product you need.
The water treatment transforms into a gel-like texture when it gets in contact with warm water, which nourishes the hair in a lightweight manner.
I love the sensorial experience that the water treatment offers, thanks to the signature scent that was designed by a professional perfumer specially for KUNDAL.
But most importantly, my hair looked and felt so much better after just one wash.
The first thing I noticed was that it was more manageable than before and I was able to comb through my hair more easily. My hair also felt smoother and softer, and looked healthier.
Given that this was just after one wash, I am excited to see how much more my hair will improve over time as I continue to use it.
I also have to give a special mention to the KUNDAL Tea Tree & Macadamia Deep Cleansing Shampoo, which I used together with the water treatment. This is a pH-balanced shampoo that offers deep but gentle cleanse.
Suitable for sensitive scalps, this helps to soothe, moisturise, and detox the scalp. I really like the smell and texture of the shampoo and how it makes my scalp feel super clean without irritating it.
KUNDAL Head Spa & Scalp Scaling Caffeine Water Treatment and other products from the brand
If your concern is in hair loss, then the KUNDAL Head Spa & Scalp Scaling Caffeine Water Treatment will be the ideal product to go for.
This water treatment contains tea tree leaf extract, eucalyptus leaf extract, peppermint oil, and salicylic acid, all of which designed to fight against hair loss and oily, irritable scalp. The star ingredient is caffeine, which the brand makes sure they were generous with in the formula, because it is a proven ingredient to support scalp health.
What's unique about the KUNDAL Head Spa & Scalp Scaling Caffeine Water Treatment is that it can be applied directly onto your scalp to deliver much-needed nutrients to it.
To complete your anti-hair loss routine, consider using the water treatment with the KUNDAL Scalp Care+ Caffeine Shampoo and KUNDAL Head Spa & Scalp Care Solution Scalp Spray. These are also designed to guard against hair loss, while improving scalp health and hair's elasticity and shine.
KUNDAL Water Treatments review: Conclusion
It's my first time trying water treatments and definitely not my last. The ones from KUNDAL are fuss-free yet give prominent results after just one wash.
I will highly recommend the KUNDAL Honey & Macadamia Miracle Damage Care Treatment for those who are suffering from damaged hair or those who go for frequent salon chemical treatments such as colouring or perming.
It is a pampering and effective treatment that I think everyone should consider adding to their regular haircare routine.
And while these water treatments from KUNDAL are made with high quality ingredients, you'd be surprised that they don't cost a bomb.
KUNDAL's range products are affordably priced from S$10.50 onwards, and these water treatments only retail for S$14.50 each. The KUNDAL water treatments are easily available at Guardian stores and online – there's no reason why you wouldn't want to get a bottle and see for yourself what I've experienced.
