For many of us beauty aficionados who are passionate about keeping our skin healthy and in tip-top shape, Kinohimitsu is a brand that we're not unfamiliar with.
Established in 1998, the functional beauty and health brand is a pioneer of collagen drinks, having launched its inaugural product – the Beauty Drink 2500mg – back in 2001. In fact, the product was the first ever collagen drink to hit the market in Southeast Asia!
Since then, Kinohimitsu has expanded its presence to many Asian countries such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia with many celebrities like Vicki Zhao Wei and Tavia Yeung Yi.
Its Collagen Diamond 5300mg product, which launched in 2011, is most widely known and remains the brand's best-selling product with over one million bottles sold worldwide to date.
Aside from Kinohimitsu's combination of advanced technology and quality, innovative ingredients in its beauty supplement drinks, many loyal customers have also commended the brand for paying extra attention to details like taste and user-friendliness to make sure that the formulas are palatable and come in easy-to-use packaging.
With the newly launched Collagen Green Caviar that just hit stores this month, Kinohimitsu applied the same approach to develop its latest offering and offered Daily Vanity the opportunity to try the anti-ageing supplement drink for ourselves!
Before we move on to our first impressions of the formula, let's find out what the product is all about.
Kinohimitsu Collagen Green Caviar review: What is it?
As its name suggests, the latest anti-ageing supplement drink by Kinohimitsu is a new formula inspired by Japanese anti-ageing secrets and boasts green caviar sourced from Okinawa, Japan as its hero ingredient.
Also known as sea grapes, it is an edible seaweed that grows on the seabed in the tropical and subtropical area where there's abundant sunshine all-year round, and is rich in amino acids, vitamins, fatty acids, minerals, and free radical-fighting antioxidants.
For the uninitiated, the seaweed is nicknamed green caviar because the tiny emerald beads that are attached to the stem closely resemble its black decadent fish-derived cousins, and is widely consumed in salads especially in Okinawa, Japan (where it's known as umibudo).
In addition to the key ingredient, Kinohimitsu Collagen Green Caviar also contains a whopping 5,300mg of marine-derived collagen peptide to help plump up the skin and the ingredient is specifically developed in a small molecular size to allow for better absorption by the body. Meanwhile, perilla extract helps to reduce cell inflammation and improve cell repair in order to enhance the skin cells' nutrient absorption.
The Kinohimitsu Collagen Green Caviar comes ready-to-drink in the brand's signature glass bottle packaging, which makes it a better option for busy, on-the-go professionals compared to other conventional collagen drinks out there.
Most collagen drinks typically come in powder form that you have to mix with water before consumption, which could potentially be a hassle for time-strapped individuals. With the Collagen Green Caviar drink however, there will be no such inconvenience since all you need to do is peel out the protective seal and twist the cap to open!
Thanks to its potent formula, the new beauty supplement drink by Kinohimitsu is capable of preventing premature skin ageing for younger ladies while also maintaining skin youthfulness in older women.
With continuous consumption, it can improve skin hydration, diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, repair signs of photo-damage, and help transform rough texture into velvety smooth skin which in turn helps makeup adhere better to skin and last longer.
Kinohimitsu Collagen Green Caviar review: What did we really think about it?
Lynnett, 30, concerned about dehydrated skin with mild signs of dryness
I've never heard of green caviar until I learned about Kinohimitsu's Collagen Green Caviar, and was immediately intrigued by the host of beauty and health benefits that these little green beads provide. Somehow, I expected a tart, refreshing taste from the supplement drink and it was all that and more, thanks to the flavour addition of sweet lychee.
As per the instructions, I take it every morning before breakfast for six consecutive days (you can also have it before bedtime, if you like) – this is the standard procedure for those who are new to collagen drinks.
After incorporating it to my daily routine for two weeks, I notice that my skin feels a little less parched and the flakiness that I usually encounter is almost gone.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised that it could help up my skin hydration so quickly even though I've only started taking it for two weeks. My husband, who is starting to pay a little more attention to his skin now (thanks to my encouragement), has also been trying to sneak a sip of my drink every morning after I divulged to him that the Collagen Green Caviar drink helps with fine lines and skin dehydration.
Kristen, 34, concerned about skin dullness
I ate a lot of green caviar when I was in Okinawa and know that it's a superfood with a lot of nutrients.
When I first heard that green caviar was used in this beauty drink, I was a bit cautious because I know that it has a "fishy" taste. Thankfully, like all Kinohimitsu drinks I've tried, this taste pleasant and sweet – there is not a hint of that "sea" taste that I don't like.
To be taken first thing in the morning, I like how the refreshing taste kicks off my day. After taking it for almost every day for two weeks, I find that my pores look more refined than before and my overall complexion appears brighter – which are quite surprising observations given that I had only tried it for two weeks.
The new Kinohimitsu Collagen Green Caviar retails for S$49.90 per box of 10 bottles but exclusively for this month, you can get a box of the Collagen Green Caviar for an introductory price of just S$35.90!
