Korean trends have been dominating the beauty industry lately, but Japanese hair salons will always remain popular with great service and state-of-the-art hair technology.
If your hair has been feeling drab and lifeless lately, pay a visit to any of these salons to give your locks a well-needed pampering session!
1. Shunji Matsuo
Having been established since 1998 and boasting five outlets island-wide (and one in Myanmar), it's safe to say that Shunji Matsuo is a household name in Singapore by now.
The salon chain prides itself on its unique cutting technique which is founded by Matsuo himself and Kazuhide Inoue, the director of renowned salon chain Fiber Zone and hair academy Zone and Section Academy in Japan. The niche method is said to create a structured style that perfectly complements the hair fiber as well as the skeletal structure of a customer's face.
All Shunji Matsuo stylists also receive regular training from top stylists based in Tokyo and Osaka to keep up to date on Japanese hair trends and styles. Hence, you can rest assured that you'll walk out with tresses that not only frame your face shape perfectly but are also trendy, easy to manage and affordable as well.
Customers who have patronised any of the Shunji Matsuo outlets will tell you that they're satisfied with the fuss-free hairstyles that the stylists can create for you based on your lifestyle, needs and wants.
It's also not surprising to see the technicians and hairstylists treating their customers with the utmost care and attention, as they believe in developing a lasting and understanding relationship with each and every one of their customers. Always putting their clients as top priority, it's no wonder Shunji Matsuo was recently awarded the Best Salon for Japanese Cut (Editor's Choice & Readers' Favourite) at the Daily Vanity Spa & Hair Awards 2020.

10. Izumi Hair Salon
Great results, very very personalised service, private ambience? You'll get all of these at Izumi Hair Salon. Here's the catch: there is only one chair in this entire salon. Yep, you heard us right. One stylist, one customer at a time. Much akin to waiting a few months for a seat at a Michelin-starred restaurant, you might not be able to get whichever time slot you want, so make sure to call ahead!
However, the effort is going to be worth it as Izumi has had 30 years worth of experience from all over Japan (even with the master Shu Uemura himself!) and New York. You'll definitely be in good hands.

11. Number76
Established in 2001 in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo, Number76 has gone from strength to strength but has always preserved their brand philosophy of providing "pleasant hospitality" and "professional services" for each and every client that enters the salon.
Its founder, Mr. Daisuke Hamaguchi, has since opened Number76 salons in Malaysia and, more recently, Singapore. His decision to expand to Singapore was driven by the number of Singaporean customers who would travel across the Causeway just to patronise the Number76 branches there.
